Overview

A client for your server

ABShelf: Podcasts and ABShelf: Audiobooks are client applications for connecting to an Audiobookshelf server selected and configured by the user.

01

Data collected by the developer

The developer of ABShelf does not collect, receive, store, sell, or use personal information from the app.

ABShelf does not include advertising, third-party analytics, tracking technology, or third-party crash-reporting services.

02

Information handled by the app

To connect to an Audiobookshelf server, ABShelf asks for the server address, Audiobookshelf username and password, and selected library.

This information is used only to connect and authenticate with the server specified by the user. The credentials and server configuration are stored using Apple’s Keychain. Because ABShelf uses iCloud Keychain synchronization, this information may be synchronized by Apple between devices signed in to the same Apple Account.

ABShelf also stores app preferences, download information, queue or list information, and playback progress locally on the user’s device. Podcast or audiobook content and related metadata may be downloaded from the configured server at the user’s request.

ABShelf: Audiobooks only uses Apple’s iCloud service to synchronize the user’s Favorites and Next Listens lists between devices signed in to the same Apple Account. These lists and associated audiobook metadata are stored in the user’s private CloudKit database. ABShelf: Podcasts does not save these lists to CloudKit.

03

Communication with the configured server

ABShelf communicates directly with the Audiobookshelf server specified by the user. Information transmitted to that server may include authentication credentials or tokens, library requests, playback progress, queue changes, and requests for media or artwork.

The developer of ABShelf does not operate, control, or receive information from the user’s Audiobookshelf server. The server operator’s privacy and data-retention practices apply to information stored by that server.

Users should configure an HTTPS server address whenever possible. The security of communications with the server depends on the protocol and configuration of the server selected by the user.

04

Sharing of information

ABShelf does not share user information with advertisers, analytics providers, data brokers, or other third parties.

Apple may process information when providing services such as iCloud Keychain, CloudKit for ABShelf: Audiobooks list synchronization, the App Store, device backups, or operating-system diagnostics. Apple’s handling of that information is governed by Apple’s own privacy policies.

05

Data retention and deletion

App preferences, cached information, and downloaded content remain on the device until removed through the app or until the app and its data are deleted.

Server credentials and configuration stored in iCloud Keychain may remain after the app is removed and may synchronize to the user’s other devices. Users can delete this information with the app’s Forget Server and Credentials button.

For ABShelf: Audiobooks, synchronized Favorites and Next Listens information remains in the user’s private iCloud database until the user removes the list entries through the app or deletes the associated iCloud data using controls provided by Apple. Using Forget Server and Credentials does not delete synchronized list information.

Information stored on the configured Audiobookshelf server must be deleted or managed through that server. ABShelf’s developer cannot access or delete information stored on a user’s server.

06

Children’s privacy

ABShelf does not knowingly collect personal information from children or from any other users.

07

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated if ABShelf’s functionality or data-handling practices change. The effective date above identifies the latest revision.
